There are two areas of ministry at Lieber Correctional Institute: One area ministers to men in the general prison population whose sentences range from a few months to life without parole. We meet each Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the gymnasium (until the completion of the Spiritual Life Center). Men and women facilitators are needed. A second area ministers to death row inmates. The activities here are similar to those listed above, and include verse-by-verse biblical studies, as well as programmed work book studies by Christian authors. These groups meet from 1:15-3:00 p.m. Friday afternoons. There are a number of different studies going on at this time. To gain access to Lieber prison potential facilitators ..(read more) Read More
MacDougal Prison Ministries

Every two weeks men from SBC go to MacDougall Correctional Facility to "welcome" the new inmates with starter kits and the Gospel.  Our church has been involved in this ministry for decades faithfully going to this minimum security prison. Currently the schedule is the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month with some variations and additional worship services.

You can help in several ways. Certainly by going.  But also by supporting those who do go with the supplies.  As an individual or a group you can help provide the following items for the starter kits.

Large AIM toothpaste; toothbrush; Ivory soap; disposable razor;white washcloth.  Cloth bags are needed and you can help by providing the cloth or helping sew the cloth to make a bag.

These items seem small to us but they mean a lot to a new or transferred inmate coming to MacDougall.  Thank you for your prayerful support.

MacDougall Christmas Gift Shop

Each year SBC joins other churches  from our Association to provide toys to the children of the inmates at MacDougall Correctional Institute.  The inmates register ahead of time and then "shop" at the gift store for toys for the children back home.

Volunteers counsel with the inmates while they are shopping.  Packages are then gift wrapped and prepared for mailing to their respective homes.  When someone is incarcerated...there are many victims.  This ministry hopes to share some joy and bring some sense of normalcy to the children of these men who are incarcerated.

Community Missions

There is plenty to be involved in locally.  Summervillle Baptist is at the heart of a mission field.  We desire to act as as strategic center for missions.  Certainly, you can serve many through the on-going ministries of  the church as well as through the community.

Community Missions Include:
Prison Ministries at Lieber and MacDougal
Various Nursing Homes
Hospital Volunteers

OCC--A Day at the Warehouse

Summerville Baptist gave 653 Shoe Box Gifts; the SBC Relay Collection Center received 7,030 Boxes; and the Low Country total was 19,265. Please continue to pray for the children as boxes are delivered world wide.

Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions --Church Goal $25,000

Please pray and give to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. All monies given go directly to help spread the Gospel around the world. We have over 5,000 missionaries who share Christ through hunger relief, social ministries, training local church leaders, health care, direct and indirect evangelism methods, translations, and the list goes on. Many of our missionaries work alongside local people, hoping to bring them to Christ in nations where Christianity is outlawed. Click International Mission Board for more information.

Disaster Relief

Summerville Baptist regularly responds to natural disasters that happen locally, in our state and across our nation.  Through the years, groups have done debris clean-up, mud outs, feeding units, and chain -saw. In addition talking and praying with people who are affected by  the disaster is a rewarding experience for all involved. Training is not necessary for all trips but is available through the SC Baptist Convention throughout the year.  If you are interested in helping sometime please let us know.

South Carolina Baptists on Mission

God is at work among South Carolina Baptists.  We live in a mission field as most of our state does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  What is going on to reach the people of South Carolina? Link to the SC Baptist Missions Dept. to get the latest.
