New Apartment Ministry Begins Soon
SBC has been asked to provide a Resident Activities person to the Farmington Village Apartment Community located off of Marymeade Drive. Pray for this ministry as it begins in the near future. Think about ways that your SS class may be of some help in coming months.

There are two areas of ministry at Lieber Correctional Institute:
One area ministers to men in the general prison population whose sentences range from a few months to life without parole. We meet each Tuesday from 7-9 PM in the gymnasium (until the completion of the Spiritual Life Center). Men and women facilitators are needed
A second area ministers to death row inmates...(read more)

MacDougall Christmas Gift Shop
Each year SBC joins other churches from our Association to provide toys to the children of the inmates at MacDougall Correctional Institute. The inmates register ahead of time and then "shop" at the gift store for toys for the children back home.
Volunteers counsel with the inmates while they are shopping. Packages are then gift wrapped and prepared for mailing to their respective homes. When someone is incarcerated...there are many victims. This ministry hopes to share some joy and bring some sense of normalcy to the children of these men who are incarcerated.

Community Missions
There is plenty to be involved in locally. Summervillle Baptist is at the heart of a mission field. We desire to act as as strategic center for missions. Certainly, you can serve many through the on-going ministries of the church as well as through the community.

Translation Completed for Fulani People
Tara Lohwater
Tara, a young adult who grew up in SBC, serves in Niger translating the stories of the Bible into the written language of the people.
Two days ago, we received some wonderful news. The story set we’ve been working on for the past 2 ½ years was fully approved by our Wycliffe consultant. Throughout the project, we have had to send in each story to her to be looked at to make sure it is Biblically accurate. Each story had to be approved along the way, but then we had to have the entire set of 33 stories approved....(read more)

I have been in Mali for about a month now. My job here involves going around and visiting the other One Story teams. I’ve visited 4 out of the
5 teams so far. The 5th team is in Timbuktu and I will go there in May. The trips to see the teams have gone well. I’ve enjoyed getting to see
where they live and meet their people groups. I’m also just there for them to ask questions, since I’ve been through it and finished a project.
A story I’ve shared with the teams is about the life of Peter. It starts when Jesus ...(read more)

People Group Sokoto Fulani
Summerville Baptist is in the process of adopting the Sokoto Fulani people group located in West Africa. Adopting a people group means that we are praying for this nation of people who live in several countries, to come to know Jesus Christ as Savior. We encourage you to pray: that each person would come to know Jesus as Savior, that missionararies would be able to share the love of Jesus, and that we as a church may even minister to them in person.

Summerville Baptist regularly responds to natural disasters that happen locally, in our state and across our nation. Through the years, groups have done debris clean-up, mud outs, feeding units, and chain -saw. In addition talking and praying with people who are affected by the disaster is a rewarding experience for all involved. Training is not necessary for all trips but is available through the SC Baptist Convention throughout the year. If you are interested in helping sometime please let us know.

New Orleans Mission Trip 07
Thanks for your prayers for this group who went to New Orleans and rebuilt homes. The devastation is far from over and thousands of homes are abandoned and thousands of people are living in FEMA trailers. More work needs to be done. This team demonstrated the love of Christ through repairing home and through conversation.

I was not living in the United States during hurricane Katrina or its immediate aftermath because I was still in the Navy and was stationed in Rota, Spain. As a result, the devastation I saw or read about from the storm was via online news sources such as CNN, MSNBC and the Times Digest. Unfortunately, the hurricane’s impact seemed distant and overdramatized. I didn’t understand the extent of the destruction and the loss,...(read more)

South Carolina Baptists on Mission
God is at work among South Carolina Baptists. We live in a mission field as most of our state does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. What is going on to reach the people of South Carolina? Link to the SC Baptist Missions Dept. to get the latest.
