Vision Mtg about Nova Scotia

SC Baptists are in partnership with this Canadian province and teams are going from our area. On Wednesday, July 14 two pastors from Nova Scotia shared how we as a church and our association can be involved in helping to establish churches in Nova Scotia.

We met Jamie Cahill who will soon be planting a church in Halifax.  Pray about this new work and how we as a church can join God, through our Association to be part of this movement.

SBC to enter into partnership

Ryan and Liz , former members of SBC and interim student minister, were recently assigned to SE Asia. They have asked our church to partner with them as they serve in this new country of opportunity. They will be working to set up exchange visits with college students and mature  adults who seek to learn more about the culture of SE Asia.  We are looking forward to partnering with them in their new assignment.

Continue praying for them as they undergo extensive training over the next several months in preparation for thier new jobs.

If anyone calls our house on Tuesday night and asks for me, Cynthia tells them I'm in prison. Then she silently waits for their response all the time trying not to laugh. She will then tell them I'm at Lieber. Lieber Correctional Facility, which is one of many facilities for the South Carolina Department of Corrections. I am part of a group of volunteers that go out to Leiber to participate in Tuesday Night Bible Study. The inmates tell the volunteers that we are...(read more) Read More

There are two areas of ministry at Lieber Correctional Institute: One area ministers to men in the general prison population whose sentences range from a few months to life without parole. We meet each Tuesday from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Spiritual Life Center. Men and women facilitators are needed. A second area ministers to death row inmates. The activities here are similar to those listed above, and include verse-by-verse biblical studies, as well as programmed work book studies by Christian authors. These groups meet from 1:15-3:00 p.m. Friday afternoons. There are a number of different studies going on at this time. To gain access to Lieber prison potential facilitators ..(read more) Read More
World Friends
World Friends--English As A Second Language

World Friends “English as a Second Language” has ended its first semester. The Lord blessed the hard work of the group that was trained with about a dozen participants. People from Europe, Central and South America were among the students who learned basic, intermediate or advance English as well as the love of Christ. Recently they had an international dinner and celebrated new friendships and reading skill sets. Pray for this missions ministry right here in our church and for Linda Hargett and other leaders.

MacDougal Prison Ministries

Every two weeks men from SBC go to MacDougall Correctional Facility to "welcome" the new inmates with starter kits and the Gospel.  Our church has been involved in this ministry for decades faithfully going to this minimum security prison. Currently the schedule is the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month with some variations and additional worship services.

You can help in several ways. Certainly by going.  But also by supporting those who do go with the supplies.  As an individual or a group you can help provide the following items for the starter kits.

Large AIM toothpaste; toothbrush; Ivory soap; disposable razor;white washcloth.  Cloth bags are needed and you can help by providing the cloth or helping sew the cloth to make a bag.

These items seem small to us but they mean a lot to a new or transferred inmate coming to MacDougall.  Thank you for your prayerful support.

MacDougall Christmas Gift Shop

Each year SBC joins other churches  from our Association to provide toys to the children of the inmates at MacDougall Correctional Institute.  The inmates register ahead of time and then "shop" at the gift store for toys for the children back home.

Volunteers counsel with the inmates while they are shopping.  Packages are then gift wrapped and prepared for mailing to their respective homes.  When someone is incarcerated...there are many victims.  This ministry hopes to share some joy and bring some sense of normalcy to the children of these men who are incarcerated.

Community Missions

There is plenty to be involved in locally.  Summervillle Baptist is at the heart of a mission field.  We desire to act as as strategic center for missions.  Certainly, you can serve many through the on-going ministries of  the church as well as through the community.

Community Missions Include:
Prison Ministries at Lieber and MacDougal
Various Nursing Homes
Hospital Volunteers

OCC--A Day at the Warehouse

Summerville Baptist gave 653 Shoe Box Gifts; the SBC Relay Collection Center received 7,030 Boxes; and the Low Country total was 19,265. Please continue to pray for the children as boxes are delivered world wide.

Disaster Relief

Summerville Baptist regularly responds to natural disasters that happen locally, in our state and across our nation.  Through the years, groups have done debris clean-up, mud outs, feeding units, and chain -saw. In addition talking and praying with people who are affected by  the disaster is a rewarding experience for all involved. Training is not necessary for all trips but is available through the SC Baptist Convention throughout the year.  If you are interested in helping sometime please let us know.

South Carolina Baptists on Mission

God is at work among South Carolina Baptists.  We live in a mission field as most of our state does not have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.  What is going on to reach the people of South Carolina? Link to the SC Baptist Missions Dept. to get the latest.
