Lottie Moon International Missions 2010
International Missions

SBC joins with thousands of other Southern Baptist churches to give and prayerfully support missionaries. The International Mission Offering was named after Lottie Moon, who was a missionary to China in the 1800's. This offering supports over 5,000 missionaries around the world.

Your gift enables them to touch the lives of people in the Name of Jesus in ways such as feeding the hungry, providing water purification and wells, health and medical needs, education, social issues and various ways of sharing the Gospel with people of almost every nation.

Come and witness the miracle of a changed life, a life that seeks first God’s Kingdom. I was called to minister to the incarcerated 5 years ago; through my obedience to God’s call I have seen the miracle and God has blessed me over and over through this work.

Jesus said “Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me”. Matt 25:40.

There are two areas of ministry at Lieber Correctional Institute:

One area ministers to men in the general prison population whose sentences range from a few months to life without parole. The imates come from a variety of religious backgrounds and, in some cases, have not accepted Christ as their savior. We meet each Tuesday from 7-9 PM in the gymnasium (until the completion of the Spiritual Life Center).  Men and women facilitators are needed to present study  sessons and engage in Christian discussions, encouragement and fellowship for this important God exalting ministry.

A second area ministers to death row inmates. The activities here are similar to those listed above, and include verse-by-verse biblical studies, as well as programmed work book studies by Christian authors. These groups meet from 1:15-3:00 p.m. Friday afternoons.  There are a number of different studies going on at this time.

To gain access to Lieber prison potential facilitators must first go through an orientation and application process before entry and every three years thereafter. The next session is offered July 20 at 6:30 p.m. and lasts about one hour. Bring along a photocopy of your drivers license.  Applications take about 2 months to process.  While all this may seem a long way off we can make preparations now. If you believe that God is calling you to prison ministry give me, Andy Johnson, a call at 873-1228, or email me at adjohnson_200@yahoo.com.
