Giving Because... My Heart Knows Better
I give because my heart knows better than my wallet what to do to honor my Lord. It wasn't always that way. There was a time that I knew there was no way I could afford to tithe and pay my bills. I just didn't make enough money. I put the figures on paper and there it was in black and white. NO WAY I COULD TITHE.
After all, God wanted me to support my family, pay for my house, my car, my debts, we had to eat, and of course we had to have a little fun too. Right?
I would even put twenty dollars in the offering plate if I had it left over each week. That was enough I thought and I was sure God understood when it wasn't. Right?
Well, God did understand. I was the one that didn't. God didn't really want any of my money and certainly didn't want my left-overs. He wanted my heart and He wanted first place in it. He wanted to be the first I thought of, not only with my money, but in everything. You see, when I started thinking of God first, there was plenty for my family, house, car, debts, food, and yes we had fun too. But most of all, my heart beat with joy. It felt good and I felt great. I also think that God smiled too.
Me, I give because my heart knows better than my wallet what honors my Lord.
