James' Jam - Be the Light
“The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
These words, written by John the Beloved, a disciple of Jesus, hold immense promise, particularly in a world where there is so much darkness. There is a light. His name is Jesus. He came, full of grace and truth, to give light to the world.
And then one day, on a hillside in northern Galilee, as Jesus spoke to his followers, he said these words: “You are the light of the world…let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
What do we do when the world seems like its covered in darkness and pain and brokenness? We pray because we believe that prayer really does change things, and we shine because Jesus has commissioned us as light in the world. And the beautiful promise is this…the light is not our own; rather, it’s the light of Jesus, working in us and pouring out of us.
Church family, let’s go be light.
