James' Jam - Psalm 90

I’ve been on a little bit of a classic rock kick lately. I was driving home the other day, and the Journey song “The Wheel in the Sky” came on. The refrain of the chorus struck me… "the wheel in the sky keeps on turning…”

Isn’t that true? Life just keeps moving on, each day with new challenges, new obstacles, and new opportunities. In Psalm 90, Moses writes, “Teach us to number our days, that we may get a heart of wisdom…Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!”

For us as a church, I think this Psalm holds two key reminders. One, we have an incredible opportunity in front of us. God is at work, in Summerville and beyond, and He has invited us to be part of what He is doing. We need His wisdom in our hearts as we navigate the brief moments we have on this planet.

Two, it is God who establishes our work; in other words, it’s by the power of God that our human efforts become eternally significant.

So, as we celebrate what God has done over the last few weeks and months, and as we look ahead to VBS, camps, and more this summer, let’s pray for wisdom and for God to make what we do eternally impactful!
