“We exist to build vital relationships with Jesus that bring others to his love.” - James' Jam
For the last few years, the statement above has been the vision statement for Summerville Baptist. It’s why we are here. Our core values give us practical ways to live out this vision. This past Sunday, Randy reminded us of core value #1, that “nothing compares to a changed life.”
As I’ve been reflecting on Sunday’s message and considering how I can better exemplify this value in my life, two thoughts have come to mind.
First, isn’t it incredible that God wants to work in my heart, to change me? And, he wants to work in your heart, to change you! There’s nothing better than that! As Eugene Peterson writes in his paraphrase of Romans 12v2, “Fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.” As we worship together, as we read Scripture, as we participate in a small group, God works, molding us and shaping us into the people He created us to be.
Secondly, God wants to use your life to bring people into his family. In the words of Jesus, we are to be a “city on a hill,” a light shining through the darkness. As we let the love of Jesus shine through us, the Holy Spirit works through us, and people — friends, family, neighbors, coworkers — are changed forever.
God is still changing lives today!
